Mercy Children's Day-Out

The day started early for the bikers. They all met at 09:00am on Tuesday 18th. December at the Petronas filling station on Sukhumvit Road.

At around 09:30am they rode down to the Mercy Children's Center in Banglamung, Nong Yai Soi 8, to take the kids on their bikes to the Bali Hai Pier in Pattaya, where they would start the day out trip to Ko-Larn.

At the Mercy Center, all were anxiously awaiting their arrival. The children cheered as the bikes rode in. After a short introduction, the children chose the bikes they would like to ride on and were properly seated, wearing crash helmets.

The biker convoy rode along North Pattaya Road, down the Beach Road, then along Walking Street and right up to the top of the Bali Hai Pier, where the MV Saifon and her crew were waiting for us.

After a few photos of the children and staff with the bikes, the MV Saifon sailed towards Ko-Larn.

Robert Camp, the owner of Adventure Divers on the Thappraya Road, Pattaya, made a great gesture of taking the children and staff of the Mercy Children's Center out for the day on one of their diving boats to Ko-Larn, where they could either swim, snorkel or go fishing.

All soft drinks, water, fruit, coffee, tea and a buffet lunch were included, absolutely free of charge.

Just off a secluded, serene beach near Ko-Larn, the MV Saifon dropped anchor. The children and staff were now able to enjoy themselves in a relatively relaxed atmosphere, swimming, fishing and snorkeling.

Later in the day, a more than appropriate Thai - Western food buffet was served, with fresh fruit and soft drinks, enough to feed another 10 persons!

After lunch, the children played again, some trying their luck at fishing. All equipment was supplied, too.

Finally, the MV Saifon retrieved the anchor and set sail back to the Bali Hai Pier, where they arrived, safely, at around 4 o'clock in the afternoon.

Media coverage was from Tropical Lifestyle Television, who will be reporting the event on their TV show (channel 9) in the near future.

Fred and Dianne Doell, the principals of the Mercy Children's center, would like to thank Robert Camp, his wife, Saifon, and Adventure Divers for their courteous and infinite hospitality. It was a terrific day out for all and most certainly a day the children will remember for years to come.

Also, a very special thanks to Bad Boys Pattaya MC, Asian Nomad MC, Mad Dog MC and all the other bikers that took the time and trouble to get up so early in the morning in order to ensure the children had a great start to their day out.
